Scientific Design specializes in the design of customized solutions in the field of drying, cooling & calcining.
The company was founded in the seventies and has established a solid reputation as a process plant equipment supplier providing innovative solutions to industry’s requirements.
In particular, it was at the forefront of the development of coal fired fluidized bed combustion in South Africa and it’s Firesand® technology is widely regarded as the most prominent in the field of hot gas generation for drying applications. This technology was trademarked in 1990. In the early nineties, Scientific Design pioneered the use of flash dryers for the drying of mineral concentrates, and in particular platinum group metal concentrate and have since expanded their range of applications to various mineral concentrates (copper, cobalt, chromite, gypsum,…)
Over the years Scientific Design has developed a comprehensive range of drying systems and has gained significant experience in the field of drying & cooling of minerals as well as chemicals, food and renewable energy products. In keeping in line with current industry trends and needs, Scientific Design has turned it’s attention to the renewable energy market with the successful commissioning of large drying installations for saw dust and bagasse. We are aiming to affirm our position as leading suppliers of engineered solutions in the field of drying, cooling & thermal processes, as well as expand the field of applications of our trademarked technology: the Firesand® Fluidized bed combustor.
